The New NASA images released today are Out of this World!
The Universe Just Got Bigger and our Little Blue Dot — Smaller!

The total number of Star Trek episodes from 1965–2022, from the original series, the movies, and all the subsequent series including the most recent, “Strange New Worlds”, is 762 (rough estimate).
If they had went to a different galaxy in each movie and each episode they would have reached far less than 1% of the number of galaxies found in the James Webb galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 image which covers a small patch of sky approximately the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length by someone on the ground. This is just an estimate.
If a space ship we’re to travel to a different galaxy every day it would take more than 50 years to explore the galaxies contained in galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, give or take a decade (estimated).
There are about 100 thousand million to 200 thousand million stars in each galaxy (give or take 50 thousand million).
Scientists estimate the average number of planets per star is about 1.
It’s difficult to calculate, but the number of stars and planets in the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723, known as Webb’s First Deep Field image, could be more than 10 trillion.
Bear in mind that means an area encapsulated in an image equal to the size of a grain of sand held at arms length from the ground on Earth.
Which means the possible number of planets in the known universe is a number so large it’s difficult to imagine.
More than 1e33 would be my estimate. But it could be much more. These are just rough estimates.
Don’t forget…. We’re the tiny inhabitants on the little blue dot in this image that’s circling just one single star in one galaxy.
